For the past couple years I’ve had the honor of performing at an annual fundraising gala held at Cypress Manor in Cary.  Specifically the Fourth Annual Share to Care fundraising event put on by Guiding Lights Caregiver Support Center.  Share to care is an event designed to raise money for caregivers.  It could be programs, services, or a collaboration with organizations that have resources caregivers could use.  This event is their largest event of the year for the organization and usually attracts about 500 guests.  This year’s event was coordinated by our friends at LaCosa Bella Events, who always do a smashing job!

The host for the event is Angela Hampton of ABC11, who sits on the board of Share to Care for which I had the pleasure of running sound for (2 years running).  She is such a nice person and extremely easy to work with!

The event’s theme is a New Orleans theme, and the big draw is the Chef’s challenge.  The area’s top chefs in assisted living facilities compete for a giant spoon for the judges competition.  That’s right, a giant spoon.  There is also a “People’s Choice” award, but everyone knows it’s in good fun.  There was also a silent auction, face mask painting, a caricature artist, a living statue, Tarot card readers, a King Cake Pull from Cinda’s Creative Cakes,  and my buddies “Decatur Street Beat”.  A Dixieland band who knows how to jam, and even walk the 2nd line!

Once all the auctions, judging, and Dixieland are finished…the guests are ready to “shake the booty” as one of the organizers noted.  So that was my queue to swing into action!  No oldies for this crowd, it was all classic hip hop, current top 40, and some rock and roll!  We jammed for the rest of the night, and the dance floor was packed!

It was so much fun.  I love DJing for this event, and it keeps getting bigger and better every year.  Hopefully I’ll be back in 2015, but I’ll have to dig deep in my bag of tricks to keep up with this crowd!
